Looking to the Future:
Our Laboratory

The laboratory space was significantly expanded in 2018 to meet the demands of an independent, modern manufacturer of additives for metalworking fluids. This expansion allows us to develop top-quality products for custom requirements and standard solutions consistently.

Thanks to this expansion, ACL has developed a range of label-free sodium sulfonates (with molecular weights from 490 to 545) to meet market demands. Our product range, based on synthetic, natural, and mineral oil-free sodium sulfonates, forms the core of our offering. We are currently actively expanding our assortment and driving the development of sustainable products forward.

Sustainable Products

"With the new laboratory, we will be expanding our range of testing equipment for the development of new products and existing products. Additionally, ACL now has the opportunity to expand our laboratory team, as much more space is available."

– Johannes von Cossel, CEO

Our Company History
From Its Beginnings to a Global Brand

1984

Year of Founding

In 1984, Karl-Heinz Luers founded Luers KG in Bremen. Initially, the company focused on producing synthetic sodium sulfonates for metal processing. Due to the rapidly growing demand for sulfonates, management relocated the company to Delmenhorst, 15 km away, where production was gradually expanded.

1998

Integration into the DS-Group

In 1998, Diersch & Schröder GmbH & Co KG acquired shares in Additiv-Chemie. As one of Germany's largest independent oil traders, the Diersch & Schröder Group is a renowned family-owned business based in Bremen. Mr. Johann v. Cossel became the Managing Director. The acquisition of ACL aimed to expand and enhance Diersch & Schröder Group activities in new areas.

2000

Acquisition of Additional Companies (Shares)

In 2000, ACL acquired the additive business of the English brand Amoa. In 2003, ACL acquired 100% of the shares of CR-Chemie Dr. Claus Rathjen. In 2006, ACL obtained a majority stake in the Danish company Esti Chem A/S. Most recently, Additiv-Chemie Luers purchased the Swiss company Adichem AG along with its subsidiary Alpha Chemie GmbH in Freital near Dresden.

2005

Expansion of Production Capacity

The expansion of Production Hall 2 allowed further advancement in the range of emulsifiers and emulsifier packages.

2018

New Large Laboratory

In 2018, ACL doubled its laboratory size and separated the development department from quality control. This enabled an expansion of the range of testing equipment and the opportunity to increase the laboratory team. The laboratory meets the requirements of modern additive production for metalworking fluids, enabling the development of label-free products and continued work on environmentally friendly chemicals.

2020

Sustainable Products

With increased awareness of greenhouse effects and climate change, sustainability has become increasingly important for Additiv-Chemie. In 2020, we received our first climate certificate. By 2023, we fully committed to the UN Global Compact, a worldwide initiative for sustainable and responsible business practices. At the same time, the development of sustainable products, by replacing synthetic components with bio-based ones, has become a primary focus. Currently, we are actively working on implementing the standardized carbon footprint calculation method presented by UEIL (the European Lubricants Industry Association) in Q3.
